Website Design & Brand Development

Flighty Fowl

Flighty Fowl is a food truck company based in Colorado Springs. The Head Chef was looking to launch this truck with a lot of flair and humor behind the brand and a website that showed his audience where he would be located.

Brand Direction

The owner had the following in mind for his brand:

  • Cartoon Style - Chicken running or flying
  • Bright colors that stand out in a crowd
  • An aviator helmet on on the chicken

Final Brand & Ideation

My process:

  • I started with an idea to go with a “Charlie Brown” style illustration. The owner indicated they had envisioned a more “Family Guy” style so I pivoted to this final cartoon.
  • I wanted to use warm and inviting colors to signify the spice behind these amazing wings.
  • The font pairing was a fun brush script for an accent font, and a tall bold sans serif for readability at far distances.

The owner loved the final design; the full brand included the design for their menu, their business cards, their truck wrap and their website.

Web Design Specs

Their site needed the following:

  • Showcase their menu and a few images of their food.
  • Have a contact page for them to request the food truck at certain
locations or for private parties.
  • Show their upcoming event locations in Google Maps so it would be
easy for customers to find them.
  • They wanted to maintain the site in-house.

Upgraded Brand

How I approached the Design:

  • First I chose Wix as their platform. Wix is simple
enough for them to maintain on their own without
the risk of breaking the site (heyo wordpress), but it’s
powerful enough to have decent site speed and allows
full customization.
  • I integrated Google Analytics and Google Maps into
their site, so updating their locations and placing a pin on
the map would make it simple for users to navigate to
using their devices.
  • Lastly, the menu. Rather than integrating a PDF, I formatted the
menu directly into the website to improve their search
engine results. This also allows them to update items
without having to edit a PDF and reupload that to the site.

The site and brand launched in spring of 2021. They have continued to maintain the site on their own and have reported no issues in the functionality of their site.
